IPHC extends deepest sympathy to Tami and Doug Sparks on the death of Tami's mom. Condolences may be sent to Tami and Doug at 1527 Binford Ave., St. Anthony, IA, 50239-9718.

The Mount Vernon girls' basketball team, coached by IPHC member Bobby Kintzel, won the 2A Girls State Basketball Championship! Bobby's daughter, Courtney, plays on the team. Congratulations to Coach Bobby and all the team on the championship!

Change in Membership Terms and Payments

At the general membership meeting held November 22, 2009, the proposed bylaw change on varying membership terms was passed. Members may now pay their membership in one, two or three year terms. Following are the costs for each term:

One-Year: $25.00 Single/Married Adult
$40.00 Family (includes all children under 18)

Two-Year: $45.00 Single/Married Adult
$70.00 Family (includes all children under 18)

Three-Year: $65.00 Single/Married Adult
$100.00 Family (includes all children under 18)

All memberships will still expire December 31st of the last year of the paid term.

Please note the Single/Married Adult membership is for a single person or for a married couple who do not have children for whom they want to pay a membership. A lot of people sent in money to pay a Family membership when it was just a husband and wife, and then were refunded the difference. The Family membership is only for a membership including children. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any Board member.

Open Futurity
Due to decreasing lack of participation, the Open Futurity has been canceled for 2010 and onward. Discussions are being held and ideas entertained for a replacement for the Open Futurity.

ATTENTION ALL STALLION OWNERS

JOIN THE IPHC BREEDERS FUTURITY COMMITTEE, IN COOPERATION WITH THE
IPHC BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AS THEY DO THEIR PART IN GOING GREEN.

THE CHANGES LISTED BELOW ARE EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2009,
AND ARE BEING MADE TO REDUCE EXPENSES AND
INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY TO OUR FUTURITY.

1. As a stallion owner, you will no longer receive a legal size 3-part stallion owner contract and a copy of the rules by mail in the fall. Instead, past participating stallion owners, and potential new participants, will be notified by postcard.

2. The contract and applicable rules will be available on the IPHC website for you to download, complete and return to Laurie Bates by the deadline date. Laurie’s address is 18641 Concord Ave., Wellsburg, IA, 50680-7615.

3. If you do not have access to a computer, you may contact Laurie Bates at 515-290-6085 to have a contract and the applicable rules mailed to you.

Your IPHC Breeders Futurity Committee members welcome and respect any comments, questions, concerns or ideas you may have. Please feel free to contact one of the gals to share your thoughts. The committee members’ numbers are posted on the website and are contained in the newsletter.

Please be sure to read the Show Rules and Regulations posted as Membership Rules in the Membership tab, which were revised March, 2009.
The main change and point of interest is number 5 under Requirements for Year-End Awards. Please note that to be eligible for a year-end award, a horse must be shown in the class to a minimum of one-half of the judges offered PLUS must show at a minimum of three weekend shows. In other words, showing at only the Memorial Day Classic and State Show will not qualify for a year-end award. This change was implemented to prevent an exhibitor from coming only to IPHC's two biggest shows and being able to receive a year-end award without supporting at least one smaller show. If you have questions, please feel free to contact one of the Board members.

New for Roundup

The Judge’s Corner
Introducing an exciting new section of the newsletter called The Judge’s Corner! Have you ever left a class and wondered what you could have done to place higher? Here’s your chance to find out. A group of judges are equally excited and have graciously agreed to answer questions to be published in our newsletter. If you have a question you would like asked, please forward it to Kim Kass at 1241 E. Fayette St., Denver, IA, 50622, or at kak12500@aol.com.

Horse Tales – Do you have a funny short story you’d like to share of something your horse has done or something that’s happened to you (or someone else) while around horses, etc.? We’d love to have you share those for a new corner of the newsletter called Horse Tales.

Painting a Picasso – When we’re all busy bathing, brushing, clipping and polishing, some people may think we’re “Paint”ing a Picasso (get it?!). This new section of the newsletter is for sharing grooming tips and any other tips that you’ve found work.

Please submit your Horse Tales and Painting a Picasso tips via e-mail or regular mail to:
